Maine Icon Shawn Moody made it official, he is entering the race to become Maine’s next governor. Moody, running as a Republican, made the announcement in front of a crowd of supporters at Moody’s Collision headquarters on Tuesday the 21st, This is Moody’s second bid for governor after running as an independent in 2010.
Emerging Icon Alex Steed of Knack Factory directed and produced this fun Halloween short with author John Hodgman for the comedy website Funny or Die. For those unfamiliar, the site is a place where celebrities, comedians, both up-and-coming and established, and regular users can all create and share original content that they think is funny. Well done!
Maine Icon Ed McKersie announced that effective Nov. 1st, Pro Search is now an employee-owned company. All employees are now owners of the staffing and recruiting company that they helped build over the past 23 years. McKersie will retain his role as president and focus on future growth. Congratulations to the entire Pro Search team!
Maine Icon Heather Blease announced that her firm, SaviLinx, will hire 115 seasonal workers at their Brunswick headquarters to support a large government contract. The company stated in a news release that it anticipates some positions will convert to permanent positions. Congratulations to SaviLinx on this new contract and for continuing to be an important part of the local Brunswick economy.
Emerging Icon Ned Swain of Devenish Wines/Local Muscle gave us a glimpse of his trip to Italy by sharing a shortened set of clips from his 7.5 hour run through the countryside of Monte Melino by Lake Trasimeno south to Moretti Omero in Montefalco. Ned recently spent five days in Umbria, Italy for a wine tasting. Luckily for us, he likes to video his routes while in exotic places.
Maine Icon Josh Broder of Tilson Technologies is among the busiest Icons this quarter with some significant accomplishments. Broder attracted $3.5M in investments in what he terms as a “breakout year for growth” for his firm. He was featured in this recent HuffPost series “5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Became CEO”. And if that weren’t enough, Broder was included by Engineering News Record on their list of America’s Top 20 Under 40 in the industry. The young leaders featured on the list speak out on how the industry should address key issues from workforce development and diversity to innovation and sustainability.
